In this day and age of Super Marts and Shopping Malls, we often tend to overspend when we go shopping. We end up buying things which we do not even need. Result: Huge bills.

But the good news is, you can avoid this. Here are a few tips you can follow to save your hard earned money when you go shopping.

Make a list

1. Make a list

This might sound too basic but this is a ‘golden trick’. Before you step out of your house for shopping, make a list of things you want to buy. The key is to stick to your list. Say ‘No’ to anything out of the list.

2. Avoid going to sections which are not on your list

If you don’t see it, you will not be tempted to buy it. Simple! That is exactly what super marts & grocery stores do. Products with attractive packaging are beautifully arranged on the display. They attract you to buy things which you don’t actually need. So just be smart and avoid going to the sections which are not on your list.

3. Stick to your budget

This is one thing you cannot neglect. Because, at the end of the day you can only spend as much as your pocket permits.

4. Do not go with an empty stomach

This one is from my personal experience. We tend to buy a lot of junk when we are hungry. When your tummy is rumbling and craving for food, all those junk munchies, chips, wafers look really tempting and you end up buying a bag full of junk food. So the tip here is to make sure you calm those hunger bells in your tummy before you step out to shop.

5. Carry cash instead of card

You might think what is the difference; cash or card, at the end you are the one who is paying. But trust me on this, when money goes out in the form of cash it hurts more. Also, when you are determined to pay by cash, you will be forced to spend only as much cash as you have. On the other hand, if you pay by card there are chances you might end up spending more than your budget permits.

6. Revisit your shopping cart before billing

This one is a “Savior”. A quick last minute check through your shopping cart; just to make sure you have only picked up things that you really need.

Hope these tips help you! :)
